Product Explanation

The LuminaEX Light Patch, a lightweight and wearable silicone circuit LLLT patch that is battery operated to deliver the stimulating effects of red light for patients suffering from radiation dermatitis. The device attaches to the site similar to a bandage and the user will turn it on for therapeutic effects. This device will consist of two components: the light patch and the battery pack. The light patch will consist of an LED array that is able to emit lights of 635 nm (with the appearance of red lights). Next, there will be a gel layer, serving as the dividing border between the red LED array and the patient’s skin. This will serve as a disposable layer in which it serves the purpose of reducing contamination between patients as well as providing a cooling effect to the wound site. The battery pack will be held within a arm strap which will adhere to the patient through the use of velcro straps. With the battery, it will be attached to the LED array through the use of a connector cable consisting of a switch, allowing for the patient to turn the LEDs on and off.
The device is very simple to use in order to ensure that the patient has little to no difficulty with operation of the device. Firstly, the user will attach the battery pack to their arm and secure it with the use of the velcro strap. Once done with this, the user will then adhere the LED light patch to the wound site, ensuring that the adhesive has successfully adhered to the user’s skin. With the cable connecting the battery pack and light patch, there will be a switch allowing the user to turn on the device. Results have shown that treatment times of 30 minutes have given beneficial effects to patients undergoing LLLT. Once finished with the treatment time, the patient will be able to turn off the LED array with the same switch, finishing the treatment with the device. The device was designed to be simple in order to ensure that there isn’t any need for an extensive user manual, making it difficult to learn how to use the device properly.
